October last year we were involved in helping with a rescue mission to Grassholm Island with the RSPB wardens from Ramsey. Ffion joined the team to help cut free the gannet chicks (and adults) that get tethered to their nests by the twine and netting they often use use to build them. Gannets will collect anything they find floating on the surface of the sea for their nests and sadly today this is as likely to be plastic as seaweed. The sheer scale of marine litter on Grassholm is shocking.
Photographer Sam Hobson joined us to document it all in photographs. It is a heart breaking sight and Sam's pictures are amazing if upsetting, well worth a look. We think they deserved to win!
