The Smalls

Pembrokeshire islands

The Smalls lighthouse is the most remote lighthouse operated by Trinity House. The structure that we see today is modelled on the Eddystone lighthouse. The original was built from wood and didn’t stand the test of time. This lighthouse has a darker tale of tragedy and madness associated with it, as the death of one of the keepers in in the early 1800s rendered his colleague insane, a fact that resulted in Trinity House changing the manning of offshore lighthouses from 2 to 3 people.
