We have decided to stick with the collective nouns theme. Did you know that the collective nouns for jellyfish are a fluther or a smack, also they have the best welsh name ‘pysgod wibbly wobbly”. Here are some pictures of some our regular visitors. Amazing jellyfish fact – the lions mane jellyfish, often found in Arctic waters, has as many as 1200 tentacles that can grow to a phenomenal 120 feet long.

As the seasons turn and the spring flowers are long gone, they are replaced by swathes of glorious purple as the heather on Ramsey starts to blossom. The scent of the heather is so strong that the bumble bees from the mainland will cross the Sound to feed on it. Occasionally even from the sea, on a warm sunny day, a waft of honey scented air will hit you as you go round the island.

There are many collective nouns for seals, including a colony, a rookery, a herd, a harem but perhaps our favourite is a bob of seals. We are just starting to see some of the adults returning to the island ahead of the breeding season.#seals

The pufflings (young puffins) are just starting to leave the Pembrokshire islands. Unlike the razorbill and guillemot chicks they are able to fly quite well when they leave although they are far from fully grown. These pictures were taken yesterday on our Grassholm trip and we will continue to see them offshore for the next couple of weeks. They leave the islands by themselves and receive no further parental guidance. Despite being surprisingly speedy fliers, puffins are not very aerodynamic and have to beat their wings 400 time per #️⃣pufflings #Wales

Gorgeous weather and some lovely common dolphin sightings over the last 2 days. One was on a bespoke cetacean trip for Coastal Cottages guests. Lovely to be doing some bespoke trips, so if you fancy something a bit different get in touch! #coastalcottages #findyourepic #visitwales #visitpembrokeshire
