An evening with Tom Bullough, Nicola Davies and Jackie Morris, three artists and writers with a passion for the wild world.
In 2021 Tom Bullough walked the length of Wales, following in the footsteps of ancients, in search of answers. Sarn Helen grew from this journey. Described by Cerys Davies as ‘part love-letter, part lament, part call-to-action’ it is a modern classic.
Awarded Wales Book of the Year in 2024 by Literature Wales, this is a chance to hear Tom and Sarn Helen’s illustrator, Jackie Morris, in conversation about the making of the book, and the many themes that thread through its pages. Chaired by Nicola Davies, winner of Wales Children’s Book of the Year, Skrimsli, also illustrated by Morris. Skrimsli wanders the same themes as Sarn Helen, through fiction and fantasy, an exciting tale of daring and adventure.
The evening will celebrate the award, and take you on a journey through time and place, lift your spirits and give you hope.
Judge Dylan Moore said of Sarn Helen:
“Despite the fierce competition from fabulous and fantastical fiction and dazzling verse, [Sarn Helen] stood out. It is the one that will stay with us longest. The depth of its explorations and stark facts, and the momentous import of its message, carries it beyond the prize and into the realm of a true modern classic.”
