The pufflings (young puffins) are just starting to leave the Pembrokshire islands. Unlike the razorbill and guillemot chicks they are able to fly quite well when they leave although they are far from fully grown. These pictures were taken yesterday on our Grassholm trip and we will continue to see them offshore for the next couple of weeks. They leave the islands by themselves and receive no further parental guidance. Despite being surprisingly speedy fliers, puffins are not very aerodynamic and have to beat their wings 400 time per #️⃣pufflings #Wales
