This glass bowl is inspired by my love of the natural aquatic world. The unique low relief formed to the underside of this turquoise aqua glass was inspired by ammonites. The spiral form of the ammonites has been applied to the underside of the bowl, leaving a smooth surface on the top of the bowl, the ammonite design is in blue and turquoise. The relief was applied to the underside of the bowl leaving the top side smooth.
The Ammonite Bowl can be used as a home decor feature and/or fruit bowl and/or a bird bath in the garden.
Dimensions: 29cm and 7cm deep | 12″ and 2 1/2″deep
The top of the bowl is smooth and the underside is textured.
After completing his degree in Glass in 2002, Matthew worked for a large glass design company in London before setting up his own business in 2012. Matthew designs and makes everything in his studio in Dorset, on the south coast of the UK, near the Jurassic Coast. All the moulds are handcarved, he applies the colours manually and the glass is slumped over the mould in a kiln at temperatures over 800C and annealed to ensure strength and durability.
