Cetacean Photo ID trips

Dolphins in Pembrokeshire •Rissos Dolphin, Grampus Griseus• We regularly catch up with these beautiful dolphins in our offshore waters and they are definitely one of our favourite species to see. Join us on one of our offshore trips for the chance to see these dolphins and more! Minke whale off Pembrokeshire, whale watching

We are delighted to be teaming up with Sea Watch Foundation again this year to offer specialist cetacean photography trips.  On these trips we will be joined by a Sea Watch Foundation scientist and professional photographer Janet Baxter.  This is a 3 hour trip dedicated to looking for cetaceans where Sea Watch staff will be carrying out photo ID on the animals to help build up their data base and knowledge of these animals.  Sea Watch’s main mission is to improve the conservation of whales, dolphins and porpoises and we are very excited to be involved with this.

We have a license to approach cetaceans when working with Sea Watch and you will also have the opportunity to benefit from some informal wildlife photography tuition from Janet Baxter.  This is an exclusive trip with limited numbers and advance booking is essential.

These trips will be run on the last weekend of the month weather permitting, for more information please phone 07494 141764 or email info@falconboats.co.uk

Greg Morgan, thanks for the following update on Ramsey’s Manx Shearwaters that’s really exciting. (Maybe I need to get out more) ‘Welcome home EB52672 and EB52673. After 7 months apart, travelling to and from the coast of Argentina, this pair of Manx shearwaters are back in the exact same nest box as 2016 – they were first time breeders last year and successfully raised a chick. Fingers crossed for another good year!’

Today Ffion and Pete had a change of scene and took part in a wildlife training event on Skomer Island, thanks to Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, Skomer Island and Skomer Marine Nature Reserve for a lovely and informative day. It was great to put some faces to names and to explore parts of Skomer not normally open to the public and hear about some of the research taking place there both above and below water. Great to see all the birds back in, they are early this year and as one would expect the puffins stole the show! Looking forward to getting the boat on the water later this week.

Hiss and Ketchup, the pointer! Love this photo, it was all part of acclimatising her to her surroundings! The peregrine rather than the pointer! Before I took her on, I had no idea there was so much involved in falconry. All the trickier as she was a fully wild bird.

This morning this photo popped up on my feed and reminded me of my journey with Hiss the Falcon, it was the first time she flew any distance to my fist. It was such an amazing experience to train a wild peregrine and I can’t help but wonder where she is now! If you want to know more about the story that inspired the naming of the company, check out the link below.
