Witness one of the wonders of the natural world as 360,000 Manx shearwater return to their burrows at dusk.
This trip will run regularly after 18.00 from around the beginning of May to mid September to coincide with the shearwaters visiting Pembrokeshire. The Puffins are only on the islands between late April and mid July.
This trip can last from 1.5 to 1.75 hours.
Let us take you on a voyage to witness one of the wonders of the natural world, as 360,000 Manx shearwater return to their burrows at dusk.
We will explore the echoing caves and stunning wildlife of Ramsey Island, before heading further offshore to find the Shearwaters returning to the islands. Conditions permitting we head towards the Bishops and Clerks and May till early August we often encounter puffins on this trip as they nest in small numbers on the North Bishop.
The evening light glinting from the golden lichens that grow on the west cliffs of Ramsey is a sight to see, but the real experience to be sought after is when we sit with the engines off, gazing back to shore and marvelling at the tranquil gliding flight of the shearwaters as they swoop around us, wingtips skimming the surface of the sea as the sun sets. This trip provides the perfect end to the perfect day in Pembrokeshire.
On this trip we would expect to see Guillemots, Razorbills and Kittiwakes nesting on the coast of Ramsey in spring and early summer, as well as the possibility of seeing rarer species such as the Chough and Peregrine falcon.
This trip should be filled with engaging encounters with the Atlantic grey seal and we may catch up with Harbour porpoise feeding in the Sound. At the North Bishop we may see up to 40 pairs of bright-billed Puffins and, as the sun sets, we would hope to see tens of thousands of shearwaters returning home to their burrows, conditions permitting. (NB. Puffins leave the islands in mid July)

Fab fab boat trip! We did the sunset cruise with our children (7&9) We all loved it. Ffion and her team were great. Very knowledgeable and pointed out so much wildlife that our eagle eyes had missed. Best boat trip any of us have ever done and would love to go again! Our son gets very travel sick bit found the motion of the rib didn’t trouble him at all as it skimmed over the waves! Definitely a massive thumbs up from him. Thank you 😀
We had a fantastic evening trip around Ramsey Island with Falcon Boats. Everything was well organised and safe, and we had a very enjoyable 1.5+ trip seeing fabulous scenery and masses of wildlife including seals, porpoises and many species of birds (“Puffin!!” being a frequent shout). The crew took great care of us and were very knowledgeable. All in all it was a magical trip and a lot of fun. Highly recommended.
