As the seasons turn and the spring flowers are long gone, they are replaced by swathes of glorious purple as the heather on Ramsey starts to blossom. The scent of the heather is so strong that the bumble bees from the mainland will cross the Sound to feed on it. Occasionally even from the sea, on a warm sunny day, a waft of honey scented air will hit you as you go round the island.

There are many collective nouns for seals, including a colony, a rookery, a herd, a harem but perhaps our favourite is a bob of seals. We are just starting to see some of the adults returning to the island ahead of the breeding season.#seals

There was a good old Atlantic swell running yesterday. This is one of the blow holes at the south end of Ramsey in action! Beautiful to watch the power of the waves especially when the sun is shining to boot.

Well after days of being spoilt with lovely weather and wildlife galore, tonight’s beautiful evening light would suggest a change is on the way! It’s a tough commute home from work. #changeintheweather

The pufflings (young puffins) are just starting to leave the Pembrokshire islands. Unlike the razorbill and guillemot chicks they are able to fly quite well when they leave although they are far from fully grown. These pictures were taken yesterday on our Grassholm trip and we will continue to see them offshore for the next couple of weeks. They leave the islands by themselves and receive no further parental guidance. Despite being surprisingly speedy fliers, puffins are not very aerodynamic and have to beat their wings 400 time per #️⃣pufflings #Wales
